Getting to the Refuge
IMPORTANT: SUMMER ROAD CLOSURE
(From June 16 to September 21)

During summer, the only road leading to the refuge is closed.
In August, a shuttle service operates from Cianzopè locality
(near the barrier)
available from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM,
without reservation required

  • FROM FALZAREGO PASS - BAI DE DONES
From Falzarego Pass (Bai de Dones locality, where the Cinque Torri chairlift parking is located), take trail number 425.
The trail soon meets the paved road leading to Rifugio Cinque Torri. The same trail allows you to tour the Five Towers and visit the trenches.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes - Elevation gain: approximately 400 meters

  • FROM FALZAREGO PASS - CIANZOPÈ
From Falzarego Pass (a few switchbacks further south toward Cortina, in Cianzopè locality), follow trail 439 leading to Rifugio Cinque Torri.
Duration: 2 hours - Elevation gain: approximately 500 meters

  • FROM GIAU PASS
- From Rifugio Giau square via trail 443, framed by the beautiful Ampezzo panorama overlooking the Cristallo, Sorapis, and Croda da Lago mountain groups, we reach the "Forame" junction. The subsequent trail features a steep climb along several steps and a series of ups and downs, though short, but quite steep and tiring.
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes - Elevation gain: approximately 300 meters

- From Rifugio Giau square via trail 452 to Rifugio Averau, then descend via trail 439.
Duration: 2 hours - Elevation gain: approximately 300 meters

  • FROM RIFUGIO PALMIERI (CRODA DA LAGO)
Starting from its southern shore where the refuge is located, continue on trail 434. Soon you reach a wooden gate arriving at a forest, passed at the junction for Val di Formin. Beyond the small bridge, trail 437 proceeds on the left bank of the stream and, with some slightly steeper sections, reaches the steep wooden bridge over Ru dei Loschi and the exposed consolidated scree ridge, with views of the underlying Ru de Formin gorge. With gentle ups and downs in the forest, cross the bridge over Rio Costeana, finally reaching Ponte di Ru Curto (4km after Pocol village, on the road from Cortina to Giau Pass). After crossing the state road, take a steep, wooded trail 439 that quickly gains considerable elevation, offering beautiful views toward the Boite Valley. Deviating left for about a hundred meters, you reach Cason de Claudio (1,981m), a charming private hut overlooking Forcella Giau and Ponta Lastoi de Formin. Continuing on trail 439 leads to Rifugio Cinque Torri (2,137m).
Duration: 3 hours 15 minutes - Elevation gain: approximately 600 meters

  • FROM RIFUGIO FEDARE
Take trail 464 to Rifugio Averau, then descend via trail 439.
Duration: 2 hours - Elevation gain: approximately 400 meters
BY CHAIRLIFT
The lift starts from the Falzarego Pass side (from the parking at BAI DE DONES locality): a 4-seat chairlift that reaches Rifugio Scoiattoli in 8 minutes. From this refuge, take trail 439 (descending) and to the right of Torre Grande (of the 5 Towers) you'll find Rifugio 5 Torri.
Duration: 30 minutes - Elevation gain: approximately 200 meters

From the bus station in downtown Cortina, take the Dolomiti Bus toward Falzarego Pass (check Dolomiti Bus schedules) and get off at Cianzopè locality or at Bai de Dones parking.
